An Urbandale High School nutrition services employee has died after being hit by a car near the school Thursday morning.

Dawn Ipson, who was in a crosswalk on 72nd Street and Aurora Avenue at about 6:45 a.m., died from her injuries after a vehicle hit her, according to a message sent by Urbandale Schools superintendent Steve Bass Thursday afternoon.

Dawn Ipson was killed Thursday.

"Our thoughts will continue to be with the Ipson family," the message reads. "(Dawn Ipson) will be deeply missed by all of those who had the pleasure of knowing her."

Ipson had worked at the school since 2001.

"Our UHS team will be informing high school students tomorrow morning with a prepared statement," Bass wrote. "Counseling support will be provided at the high school and will continue to be provided as long as needed."

Urbandale police spokesman Sgt. Chad Underwood said he could not comment if the driver of the car that hit Ipson had been cited in the case. More information is expected to be released Friday morning.
