According to Murdaugh's attorney Jim Griffin and Attorney General Alan Wilson, Alex Murdaugh's murder trial will begin on Monday, Jan. 23.

The trial will last until Friday, Feb. 10 at the Colleton County Courthouse.

Wilson's office said Judge Clifton Newman is expected to preside over the trial.

Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin of Murdaugh's legal team shared a statement saying they appreciate the Court accommodating their request for a speedy trial, and Alex is looking forward to his day in court. They are confident that he will be acquitted after an impartial Colleton County jury considers all the evidence.

Alex hopes everyone responsible for Maggie and Paul's death will eventually be brought to justice.

Murdaugh was indicted on double murder and weapons charges on July 14 in the June 2021 shooting deaths of his wife and son.

An order had originally been signed setting the date for Jan. 30 but before the order was filed it was changed to Jan. 23 to better fit with judicial schedules.
