You may be familiar with the 10,000 hours theory — the input required to achieve excellence in your chosen discipline. Well, park that for a moment and focus instead on the 10 per-centers. Who are they? This is one of the fundamentals of understanding female sport: 90 per cent of female athletes are recreational and sport is part of their lifestyle; 10 per cent are serious and could be the best at any game they pursue. Sport is their lifestyle.

The 10 per cent are largely agnostic about what game they play. They’ve played multiple sports growing up and will try any sport that treats them seriously, allows them to grow and gives them opportunity.
