Ajay Devgn directorial Bholaa has had a good weekend, if early estimates regarding its fourth day run at the box office is to be believed. The action-thriller, also starring Tabu, minted Rs 14 crore on its day four at the ticket counter, according to Sacnilk’s early estimates. As of now, its total collection stands at an impressive Rs 44.7 crore. It had earned Rs 11.20 crore on day one, Rs 7.40 crore on day two and Rs 12.01 crore on day three.

The film passed with flying colours in its first weekend, but its real test will actually be on Monday, when the audience returns to their daily routine after enjoying their weekends off. If the film manages to pull up a decent figure of around Rs 10 crore, Bholaa would have done well for itself. However, the IPL, which began on Friday, might affect the chances of the movie’s performance during weekdays.

Despite the obstacles that lies ahead, Bholaa has done decently at the box office till now. In fact, it happens to be the third highest opener at the ticket counter post the successes of Shah Rukh Khan-led Pathaan (Rs 57 crore), and the Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor romantic drama Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (Rs 15.73 crore). This also comes as a relief to Ajay Devgn’s record as a director; his past movies, including U Me Aur Hum, Shivaay and Runway 34 had failed to churn up the expected numbers at box office.

Bholaa is the official Hindi remake of the Tamil hit, starring Karthi, which was helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. Apart from Devgn and Tabu, the film also features Deepak Dobriyal, Sanjay Mishra among others in pivotal roles.

The film had received a mixed response from critics, with The Indian Express’ reviewer Shubhra Gupta giving it three stars in her review. “There’s enough going on to keep everything going, as Shiv bhakt Bholaa, aided by holy ‘vibhooti’, his valiant cop companion pointedly named Diana, and a brave informer called Aijaz, makes sure that he is the last man standing. Again, fortunately, we aren’t left too much time to dwell on the power-sharing in the trinity– obviously, our Bholaa has pole position– as the plot gets back to its relentless cracking of bones, showering of blood, skewering of bodies, and parts thereof. For the faint-hearted? No way. Bang-for-the-buck? Oh yes,” read a section of her review.
