A Macomb County woman was arraigned Monday on an assault charge related to an attack on two police officers in Shelby Township, days after her husband and two sons were arrested in the same incident.

Manal Kassab, 46, was arraigned in 41A District Court, the Prosecutor's Office said, and charged with assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, a two-year felony.

"We will never tolerate any violent or assaultive behavior towards those who protect and serve our communities,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement.

The incident, which left two officers with concussions, unfolded the night of Sept. 9 when police responded to reports of people firing a gun from a Cadillac Escalade. Police located the home of the registered owners of the vehicle and attempted to tow it.

According to prosecutors, 55-year-old Sam Kassab and his teenage sons reportedly attempted to block the tow truck from leaving. Sam Kassab then allegedly pushed the officers before getting in a fight with them as he was being arrested.

The officers were taken to the hospital.

They will appear in court for a probable cause hearing Sept. 27.
