A Dearborn Heights teen has been charged in connection with "accidentally" firing a shot at another youth Monday, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced.

Police responded to a home in the 8400 block of Grayfield Street around 3:30 p.m. to investigate reports of a shooting, authorities said.

Upon their arrival, officers located the victim inside the home with a gunshot wound to his forehead, Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in statement Tuesday.

A 14-year-old male was handling the firearm when it accidentally discharged at a 16-year-old male, striking him with one round, according to the investigation.

He was taken to a local hospital and sustained critical injuries, Dearborn Heights police said.

The suspect fled from the scene and later turned himself in to Oak Park police the same day, Worthy's office noted.

He has been charged with careless discharge causing injury or death, the prosecutor said.

A preliminary hearing was held Tuesday before Referee Leslie Graves in the Lincoln Hall of Justice in Detroit. A personal bond was set at $10,000.
