Rakow Center’s annual cardboard regatta set for Feb. 17
Registration continues through Saturday, Feb. 10, for the annual Rakow Regatta, a cardboard boat competitoin to be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Rakow Center’s indoor pool, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.
All boats must be designed and constructed before race day and may be powered by canoe/kayak paddles or muscle power, according to the Dundee Township Park District website.
Registrants will receive a list of rules and accepted materials. The entry fee per boat is $5 for Dundee Township residents and $7 for nonresidents.

Elgin Development Group unveils revamped website
Elgin Development Group, a division of the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce, recently unveiled its redesigned website, elgindevelopment.com.
The site was developed by Terry Gajewski, vice president of operations for the Elgin Area Chamber, according to a news release.
Key features of the revamped site include interactive maps; extensive demographics; a guide for opening a local business; enhanced visuals; business success stories and mobile responsiveness, a news release said.
Organ benefit concert at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elgin
There will be a benefit organ recital from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 397 Fulton St., Elgin.
Donations made at the concert will go to the restoration and expansion of the church’s historic George Kilgen & Son organ, which dates back to the 1920s, according to a news release.
Jeffrey Neufeld, music director and organist at First Congregational Church of Elgin, will present music from Bach, Stanley, Couperin, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Dubois, the release said.

Hanover offering free tax prep service starting Monday
Hanover Township and volunteers from AARP will be offering free tax preparation services beginning Monday, Feb. 5, at the Township Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett.
Appointments are required and will be scheduled through April 8 on a first-come, first-served basis, according to a news release.
Participants are asked to pick up the necessary documentation prior to their appointment. All returns will be filed electronically, and printouts will be given to each participant for their records.
