A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of another young boy in Shoreditch.

The unnamed boy will appear in court today charged with the murder of 17-year-old Nathan Bawuah.

Police raced to Hackney Road, near the junction with Cremer Street, Shoreditch, at 10.53pm on Saturday, February 17, following reports of a stabbing. Nathan Bawuah was pronounced dead at the scene.

Formal identification awaits, police have said. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 21 at Poplar Mortuary.

The 17-year-old was arrested by detectives on Monday, 19 February. At the time of the stabbing detective chief superintendent James Conway, who leads policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said: ‘My thoughts are with the family of this young man who has tragically lost his life.

‘I can assure them that we will be relentless in seeking to identify whoever was responsible for this murder.’ Detective chief inspector Joanna Yorke, from specialist crime north, added: ‘A family has been left devastated following the tragic death of yet another young man on our streets.’

Police promised to be ‘relentless in seeking to identify whoever was responsible for this murder’ and just four days later the 17-year-old charged with murder will appear in custody at Stratford Magistrates’ Court.

As the investigation took place the road was shut in both directions between Queensbridge Road and Diss Street due to the stabbing taking place near Hoxton Overground station.
