Investing.com -- Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk said on Wednesday that the firm had completed production design on a long-planned update to its Tesla Roadster, and that the car was likely to ship starting next year.

In a series of posts on the social media site X, which Musk also owns, he said that Tesla was aiming to unveil the Roadster by end-2024.

"Production design complete and unveil end of year, aiming to ship next yea(r)," Musk said.

Musk claimed that the updated Roadster was targeting a 0-60 miles per hour time of less than one second, and that Tesla had “radically increased the design goals” for the upcoming model.

Musk also claimed the new model was being developed in collaboration with SpaceX.

Tesla had produced the first-generation Roadster between 2008 and 2012, which was the first fully electric car with a range of over 244 miles per charge.

Tesla had also launched the model into space in 2018 on a SpaceX rocket.

Pre-orders for the second-generation Roadster have been open since 2017, and are currently at $50,000.

The delivery date of the vehicle has been consistently delayed between 2021 and 2023, with the most recent date for production being pegged as 2024.

But Tesla recently scaled back its production goals for 2024, citing a weaker outlook for sales and as the EV maker prepares to overhaul its current product line.

0 to 60 in a second is not good for tires.  People will be changing them like they are in a NASCAR race.
