If you've already filed (good on you!), you can expect to receive your tax refund within 21 days if you filed your return electronically and opted for direct deposit. If you mailed your return or chose to receive a paper check, it may take longer for your refund to arrive, typically around four to six weeks.


If you're under 65, are not blind, and are single or married and filing separately, the standard deduction for the tax year 2024 is $13,850. People 65 and older or blind can claim an additional standard deduction of $1,850.


The child tax credit is $2,000 per qualifying child. The House is working on potential legislation to expand the child tax credit. If the Senate approves, families may be eligible for an even greater tax credit in 2024.
