Conor Benn thought he was out of the hot waters he had found himself back in October 2022. The British boxer had tested positive twice for a banned substance (clomifene) ahead of his then-scheduled bout against Chris Eubank Jr. UKAD, and The BBBofC had put Benn under temporary suspension because of the failed drug tests. However, NADP rescued Benn from that fate.

The National Anti-Doping Panel had lifted the temporary suspension on Benn that restricted the Brit from fighting in the UK. However, the UKAD and The Board of Control appealed against the decision, which, according to a report from Daily Mail Sports, reveals UKAD and The BBBofC won recently. It leaves Benn in a precarious position, something Michael Benson highlighted on social media.

Having cleared Benn to fight back in July last year, the National Anti-Doping Panel communicated the news last week. However, whether Benn’s suspension to fight in the UK would be re-imposed is yet to be seen. Moreover, both UKAD and The BBBofC have refused to comment on the new verdict. But Benn’s corner has released a statement.

A representative for Conor Benn has claimed that despite the new verdict, they haven’t received any orders for suspension, and Benn remains open for fights. Since the tests, Benn has blamed accidental consumption of the substance. Meanwhile, The BBBofC’s stance on the matter is Benn should not be allowed to fight in the UK until there’s a proper understanding of how the substance got into his system.

Despite losing to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021, Pacquiao seemed confident about Benn. Pacquiao said, “It’s been the same preparation. I know I can do this.” Later in the interview, he said, “He’s popular here [in Saudi Arabia and the U.K.], and he’s willing to fight me now. I’ve seen it. He has a lot of fans here. I expect us to finalize it this weekend, and I think we’ll fight here in Saudi Arabia.”

Despite what seems like a dire situation for Benn, the truth is that Conor Benn can just avoid a fight in the UK and organize his bouts in other countries, like his fight against Manny Pacquiao. Plus, his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has good relations with the Saudis, so arranging future fights there shouldn’t really be an issue. Do you think Benn should be banned from fighting in the UK? Or do you think Benn has suffered enough?
