Meath are scrambling to find a new senior hurling manager on the eve of the Joe McDonagh Cup after Seoirse Bulfin resigned from the post earlier today citing "personal and family commitments".

Bulfin, who came on board as a coach with the Royals in 2022, took the reins as manager last year and enjoyed a successful season with Christy Ring Cup success secured.

The Limerick native also led Meath to League glory last season but they found life in Division 2A a bridge too far this term with just an opening day win against Kildare to show for their campaign.

Bulfin, an All-Ireland SHC-winning coach with Clare in 2013, informed the Meath county board of his decision to step away from the role with immediate effect.

“I am writing to inform you of my intention to resign as senior hurling manager with immediate effect due to personal and family commitments," Bulfin said.

"The last two and a half years have been immensely satisfying and enjoyable, culminating in winning the League and Christy Ring double last year.

"The organisation and professionalism shown by the coaching team with whom I’ve worked with over the course of three seasons, and who left no stone unturned in our quest to do our very best for Meath GAA, and Meath Hurling in particular is to be commended.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all members of Coiste na Mí, senior hurling backroom members and players who made the last three seasons so enjoyable.

"I would like to wish the very best of luck to all involved with Meath GAA going forward.”

Bulfin's departure leaves Meath with a massive hole to fill just three and a half weeks before their Joe McDonagh Cup opener away to Down on April 21.
