Cats don't like to use their own gardens as toilets so they often go next door - infuriating the neighbours.

This can be really annoying if your garden is the one they choose to use as their bathroom. Even though cats are good at keeping pests away, it's not fun to clean up their mess every day.

You might not be able to control where a cat goes to the loo, but you can keep them away with a simple 40p trick that they don't like as one gardening fan says this will do the job.

Cats not only use other people's gardens as bathrooms, but they also dig up flowers, sleep in plants, and mess with homegrown veggies. It's tough to keep them out, but a gardening lover has shared an easy way to make them stay away, reports the Mirror.

Cats have a great sense of smell to help them hunt and stay safe, which means some smells are "unbearable" for them.

Sheenaugh McMahon posted on the Gardening Hints and Tips Facebook page that you just need tea bags and eucalyptus oil. She said it "works a treat".

Sheenaugh shared a great tip for keeping cats from using your garden as a toilet. She said, "I had a problem with cats using my gravel front garden as a little tray. I was told to use used tea bags soaked in eucalyptus oil. I tried it and it works a treat so anyone with this problem too, try it and cats will stop pooing in your garden. Apparently, they hate the smell."

Gardening expert David Domoney agrees that this is a good idea. He has found it "very effective" too.

David also says you can spray the tea bags with muscle heat spray instead of eucalyptus oil. He mentioned: "One of the things that has worked effectively for me in the past is to save tea bags and spray them with a muscle heat spray, like Deep Heat."

You can buy tea bags for 40p at Asda and eucalyptus oil for £1.11 from Amazon.
