Ring doorbell footage shows the scary moment a man was shot at while running down a street.

Police were called to New Chester Road in the Rock Ferry area of the Wirral after reports of gunshots being fired on the main road. Officers got a call at 10.30pm, but they think the shooting happened 25 minutes before that.

A video from a Ring doorbell, which lots of people have shared on social media, shows a man running for his life while another person seems to shoot at him with a gun. The scary event happened across the road from where the video was taken.

You can hear a man shouting in the video, but it's not clear what he's saying. Not long after the first man is seen in the video, a second person seems to be running after him.

Just after this, you can hear three gunshots. A third person, who can also be seen running, comes into view of the camera and looks like they're following the other two people closely behind, reports the Liverpool Echo.

When the ECHO got to the scene, part of New Chester Road, which is a main road connecting Birkenhead to Hooton, was blocked off. Lots of officers were inside the blocked-off area.

People who had left their homes within the blocked-off area and wanted to go back were not allowed to by the police. One woman had to wait for a few hours to go back home because she couldn't get past the blocked-off area.

Three buses were forced to change route after a street was locked down as police hunt a gunman. The incident happened in the Thorburn Close at around 4.15pm when a man was shot, although no-one was injured.

A fingertip search was carried out in the area and officers were seen looking over the walls of peoples homes and along pavements. They were also checking CCTV footage as they went door-to-door to speak to residents.

Armed response units, forensics and dog handlers were also spotted at the scene as police sealed off the road.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson said: "Our initial enquiries suggest that this was a targeted incident, and we're looking to establish the full circumstances and find those responsible. If you live in the area or were passing by and saw, heard or captured anything, including anyone running away from the scene, please come forward.

"Although nobody was injured, to fire a gun in a residential street is incredibly reckless and can have devastating consequences. Officers will remain in the area carrying out enquiries today, and I want to assure those people who live and work nearby that we will be relentless in removing those responsible and their weapon from the streets. Tell us what you know, and we will do the rest."
