There was always one recurring wish for Linda Djougang each time she wrote down her aims at the start of every year: to finally make the journey to Cameroon to see her mother again. Djougang was nine when she parted from her mum and left the coastal city of Douala in August 2005 to travel to Dublin to live with her father in Rush.

Different continent, different language, different culture, but Djougang learned to acclimatise. Years later, she qualified as a nurse and excelled as an international prop and is part of the debut class of female rugby players on IRFU contracts. Returning to Cameroon, however, was something she was never able to tick off her list. Until last July.
