Country music singer Morgan Wallen has been arrested after allegedly hurling a chair from the sixth floor of a rooftop bar in Nashville.

Officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department allege the piece of furniture landed just three feet away from them.

According to bystanders, the Whiskey Glasses hit-maker, 30, started laughing after dangerously throwing the chair from the rooftop bar, which belongs to fellow country star Eric Church.

Mr Wallen on Sunday was charged with three counts of felony, reckless endangerment and a count of misdemeanour disorderly conduct, Nashville police said.

His bond was set at $15,250 (£12,050) according to local authorities and records show that he was arrested at 12.30am local time (06.30 BST) and released three hours later.

Wallen is expected in court on May 3.

Despite being seen grinning in his official mugshot, the singer's lawyer Worrick Robinson issued a statement insisting that Mr Wallen was "co-operating fully with authorities".

This is not the star's first legal run-in.

The Tennessean reports that Mr Wallen was previously arrested in May 2020 for public intoxication and disorderly conduct outside Kid Rock's honky-tonk in the entertainment district.

He also faced a backlash for his use of a racial slur outside his Nashville home in 2021. Wallen lost his recording contract, was dropped from country radio and suspended from the Country Music Awards for three years because of the offensive statement.

The musician said he was "embarrassed and sorry" over the 2021 incident.

The Tennessee native originally shot to fame when he competed on the sixth series of TV singing contest The Voice in 2014.

He released his third album titled One Thing At A Time last year and has won a number of awards over the years, including an Academy of Country Music Award and fourteen Billboard Music Awards.

Wallen last performed in the UK to a sold out crowd at his own headline gig at the London O2 Arena in December 2023.

He is due to headline music festival BST Hyde Park on July 4. BST declined to comment.

Artists including Sir Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, Pink and Taylor Swift have previously performed at the prestigious outdoor London location, which has an official capacity of 65,000 but has hosted concerts attended by thousands more than that.
