MANY people will know the struggle of trying to find a bra that isn’t visible under a white top.

And it turns out that you should actually avoid picking white lingerie if you want to be subtle, and instead opt for a much more surprising colour.

Influencer Estelle Berglin claimed in a video that you should wear red lingerie if you want them to be invisible under white garments.

She explained on her @swealife account: “I know it sounds weird, but let’s try it.”

The social media pro demonstrated a white bra and a red bra, with the latter being practically invisible under her white top.

Speaking of the red bra, she added: “You can’t even see the edges, but it’s there.

“And don’t forget, it also works for bottoms.”

Thousands of people have liked her video and clearly appreciated her fashion hack.

One person said they also swear by the trick, and wrote: “I have tried this and it really does work! I now tell all my customers to wear red it they are worried their white garments are too see through.”

Another added: “My Mom told me this long time ago.”

And a third commented: “first time I heard of red under white.”

However, some people disagreed, with one social media user chiming in: “It works on few materials not on all.”

Nicola Crook, a trained bra fitting expert, tried out a number of bra colours under white tops to discover which was best.

If you have a lighter skin tone, Nicola suggests wearing a nude bra under your white shirt.

A black bra works best if you have a darker skin tone, according to the expert.

Surprisingly, you can also wear a burgundy bra under a white top if you have a darker skin tone.

How to get the right bra for you

Priya Downes, founder and CEO of lingerie brand Nudea gave her top tips..

UNDERBAND: This is crucial for support.

It should feel seamless against your skin, resting in a straight line.

Now, try to put two fingers under the band – there should be just enough room, leaving you with a perfectly snug fit.

CUPS: You don’t want them too tight, with your boobs bulging over the top or out the side.

And you really don’t want gaping between the cup and the top of your breast.

Neither is a good look under your clothes.

CENTRE FRONT: The wiring that curves up between your breasts should lay flat against your breastbone without any discomfort or rogue wire poking out

However, her top choice was also with a red bra, backing up Estelle’s claim.

The colour red has been "one of the fashion industry's best-kept secrets" because it's invisible under white, Nicola said.

It has to do with the pigmentation of your skin.
