Vodafone has warned its millions of mobile customers their bills will rise from this month due to "increased network and service costs".

Each April, Vodafone puts up the price of its mobile costs for its estimated 18 million UK customers, and this year is no different. The operator uses the Retail Price Index (RPI) put out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in March, as well as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figure.

Pay-monthly customers whose plans began before December 9, 2020, will see their payments rise by the RPI of 4.5%. For example, if your bill is currently £30 a month, it will rise to £31.35.

Anyone whose plan started on or after December 9, 2020, will see their bills rise by the CPI, 4%, plus 3.9% to cover "the increasing costs of running our network". So if your monthly payments are usually £30, they will now be £32.37.

Out-of-bundle charges will also increase from Friday, April 12. Vodafone said: "We understand that no one wants to see prices go up, but like many businesses, we’re experiencing a big rise in the cost of running our network and providing our services.

"These cost increases are affecting telecoms providers across the UK and are mainly driven by high energy costs and inflation."
