A baby girl is in a critical condition in hospital after being bitten by a dog at home.

The girl sustained serious injuries in the incident in the Hatherley area of Cheltenham just before 18:00 BST on Sunday.

She was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and later transferred to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, where she remains.

Gloucestershire Police said the pet dog - which is not a banned breed - has been seized by officers.

A spokesperson for the force said officers and paramedics had attended the incident on Sunday.

"The pet dog, which is a large breed, has been seized by police and is at a secure kennel while investigations continue," they added.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to get in touch with police.
