GAA team news: Tony Kelly named on bench for Clare’s Munster opener against Limerick

TONY Kelly has been named on the Clare bench for Sunday’s Munster SHC opener with Limerick. The 2013 Hurler of the Year hasn’t played since undergoing ankle surgery back in December.

Clare management had set their provincial opener against the reigning All-Ireland champions as a return date and Kelly appears to have made that target.

Brian Lohan has named the same starting 15 as that which began the recent League final win over Kilkenny, with Kelly among a robust Clare substitute’s list that also includes Shane O’Donnell, David McInerney and Rory Hayes.

For Limerick, Kyle Hayes starts for just the second time this year. He is listed at wing-back along with Declan Hannon, who missed last year’s All-Ireland series with injury.

Seán Finn is named in reserve, having started the recent League semi-final loss to Kilkenny.

Eoghan O’Donnell makes a return to the Dublin hurling team for Sunday’’s crucial Leinster SHC trip to Wexford Park.

O’Donnell picked up a hamstring injury in Dublin’s Walsh Cup defeat to Galway in Parnell Park and hasn’t played since. He had been trialled at full-forward in that game after an impressive showing there for Whitehall Colmcille in last year’s club championship but has been named at number three for Sunday.

Brian Hayes makes his championship debut at wing-forward.

Meanwhile, Kevin McStay has made one change to his Mayo team for their Connacht semi-final clash with Roscommon. Enda Hession replaces Eoghan McLaughlin from the team that beat New York in the Bronx last week.
