Watch: Child runs onto pitch with flare during League of Ireland game

Child runs on pitch with flare and PSNI attacked by missiles after chaotic Derry City clash

A child was shown picking up a flare and running up the pitch amid chaotic scenes at Derry City’s Ryan McBride Brandywell stadium last night.

The match, which was shown live on RTÉ, had to be delayed after missiles were thrown at Shamrock Rovers fans from outside the ground and flares were also thrown onto the pitch with one child picking up the firework in shocking scenes at the Foyleside venue.

Derry, who lost their SSE Airtricity League Premier Division clash 3-1 to reigning champions Shamrock Rovers, also had to contend with a host of off-the-field issues during the match.

Shamrock Rovers fans had to take shelter on the pitch after the game when missiles thrown from outside the ground again rained down upon them.
