LOOKING to ditch the satellite dish? We've spotted a great deal on Amazon for anyone looking for a streaming device.

The Roku Express HD streaming device has been slashed by 31% on the retailer's site to £24.99.

Amazon has had the streaming device market in a chokehold since it launched the hugely popular Fire TV streaming stick in November 2014.

But there are rival devices out there on the streaming market.

Many might not realise that Amazon actually wasn't the first to the streaming device scene: Roku actually released its first device in 2008.

MORE VERSUS

With an £11 discount, the HD Roku Express is now considerably cheaper than it was.

I've compared the two devices in the past, so if you're still unsure about what to choose after reading this, check out my Fire TV Stick vs. Roku explainer for a more in-depth analysis.

For anyone unfamiliar with smart TV Sticks, they're a fantastic way to turn any monitor or older television into a smart TV.

Pop them in the HDMI port at the back, and you're ready to stream directly to the screen.

If you've purchased or looked at purchasing a smart TV, you can see why smart sticks have become so popular since they're usually priced between £20 to £40 rather than the few hundred you'll have to invest in a telly with a built-in smart platform that may not even have the apps you're after.

Even if you've already got a high-end TV, you'll want to read on since they can also be a cheap way to upgrade poorer smart home layouts or get access to apps that you're missing.

Although there's no real technical setup, you'll have to ensure you pick the right one for your TV.

There are three different options, and only two of them allow you to stream in 4K.

This Roku deal is actually part of a wider brand sale currently happening on Amazon; there are currently a few other devices also on offer.

For example, anyone who already has a 4K TV will want the Roku Express 4K (£29.99, was £39).

It allows you to stream in 4K Ultra HD, with HDR support providing sharp detail and vivid colour that's optimized for your TV.

The Roku Streambar (£84.99, was £129.99) is also available for 35% less, giving you access to all of the same features as the stream sticks but with the added benefit of a new sound system.

It still streams in 4K like the Express, but with the added soundbar, you'll get a few new features, like loud adverts automatically having the volume lowered and crisp dialogue so you can ditch the subtitles.

While you're essentially bypassing the older make of a TV by plugging one of these in, you'll need to ensure it's actually a 4K TV if you want to stream in that resolution.

In terms of apps, you'll get access to household names like Apple TV, Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, Prime Video and BT Sport.

It doesn't end there, as you can also continue enjoying live TV, news, sports, movies, and TV episodes on free channels like ITV and BBC.

If you've begun building a smart home ecosystem, smart assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant are all compatible with voice controls.

The streaming stick is extremely popular on Amazon as it maintains a spectacular 4.6-star rating over 17,000 reviews.

Additionally, while on the hunt for fantastic deals, I spotted the Roku Express at number 7 on Amazon's best-selling streaming sticks page.

One enthusiastic shopper also states that it's 'SO much better than the Amazon Fire Stick,' going on to note that 'The Roku is just so user-intuitive. It makes sense in the layout—simple and everything you need on the Home Screen rather than too much like the Fire Stick.

I would definitely recommend this over the fire stick (if you haven’t worked that out already!).'

Another customer says, 'This canny device does exactly what it says on the box, it's very easy to set up and stops [me] having to buy a newer Samsung TV. Don’t hesitate. It’s perfect.'

As mentioned earlier, there are a few options to consider before making a final choice, and fortunately, they're also currently on sale at Amazon.
