YOU can bust your neck wrinkles and stop them from coming back with a simple four-step routine, an aesthetic nurse has revealed.

Neck wrinkles are similar to the ones on your face: they're down to a combination of factors like ageing, sun exposure, genetics and lifestyle habits.

As we age, our skin loses elasticity due to a decrease in collagen and elastin production.

This loss of elasticity leads to sagging skin, which can become a particular bugbear around the neck.

All is not lost though, assured Vanessa Coppola.

The board-certified nurse is an expert in anti-ageing treatments and the owner of beauty clinic, Bare Aesthetic.

“Prevention is always the best medicine,” she told British Vogue.

“Proper use of sunscreen and avoidance of excessive sun exposure is one of the best things you can do to prevent wrinkles, in combination with a healthy lifestyle.”

She revealed her simple four-step routine to rejuvenate the skin on your neck, smooth out any wrinkles AND stop them from coming back.

“At the minimum, you want your at-home treatment to include an antioxidant serum," Vanessa explained.

"Also an anti-ageing moisturiser, a retinol or retinoid (if you are not pregnant or breastfeeding) and a good quality sunscreen.

“Formulations that include hyaluronic acid, growth factors, proprietary peptides, vitamin C and vitamin E, ceramides and lipids are good ingredients to look for.

“Also, formulations that include alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic) and beta hydroxy acids (salicylic) work to increase collagen production and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles [too].”

HYDROXY ACID HYPE

Shortened to AHA and BHA, a number of products including alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids have been hailed anti-ageing heroes.

The acids, which pack an exfoliating punch, were once reserved for luxury skincare.

But thanks to product developments and increased awareness, you can pick them up at affordable price tags now.

What is Collagen?

  • Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and provides strength and structure to the skin and muscles
  • It plays a significant role in maintaining skin elasticity and hydration
  • As we age, collagen production decreases, leading to wrinkles, sagging skin and decreased skin firmness
  • Collagen production starts to dwindle in our mid-to-late 20s and early 30s. By 40, it has dropped dramatically

It's important to note that while collagen-based skincare products may offer benefits, their effectiveness can hugely vary.

Some experts suggest that topical application of collagen may have limited effectiveness compared to other skincare ingredients that stimulate collagen production within the skin.

That includes the Boots Ingredients AHA BHA Serum.

This serum, which includes both acids, costs just £6 and has rave reviews from beauty buffs.

“This is a very effective serum, I must say,” one buyer revealed.

“I am 42-years-old and feel my skin was looking aged and dull… but using it every night (one to two drops on a cleaned face) works great for me.

The buyer added that they bought the serum based on Dr Vanita Rattan’s, a famous doc and cosmetic formulator, recommendation.

"The primary function of AHAs in skin care products is exfoliation," Dr Vanita said.
