Dancing on Ice star Greg Rutherford has said his family are struggling through a "tough time" after his serious injury on the show.

The 37-year-old athlete was forced to pull out of the ITV show just hours before the final due to suffering a bad injury during rehearsals.

The retired Olympic gold medallist recently shared a snap of his scar following his surgery.

Greg said he "effectively gave myself a C-section" after he ripped his abs when he attempted to skate through the legs of professional figure skater Colin Grafton.

The dad-of-three opened up to his followers about how much his family has suffered since he sustained his injury, the Mirror reports.

Taking to his Instagram stories, he said: "We're having a s*** time as a family at the moment so I'm cooking through it. Thanks for all your well wishes."

Greg is engaged to blogger Susie Verill and the couple are parents to two sons Milo, eight, and Rex, five, and a daughter Daphne, two.

The long jump athlete recently took to social media to share a series of snaps of his nasty scar alongside the caption:"A little stomach update… I’m almost 4 weeks post op now and feeling so much better.

"I can move around with almost no feeling of pain and the wound has now closed and healed. Pic 2 shows the insane swelling I initially had.

"I can’t tense my abs properly still, but that’s coming. I also managed to put a ton of weight on since the op, so as soon as I’m ready I’ll be training to get myself trim again… maybe even back on skates."

Greg was forced to withdraw from the competition on the morning of the final after he injured himself while sliding through the legs of professional skaters Brendyn Hatfield and Colin Grafton.

Ryan Thomas and Amani Fancy went on to win the 2024 series of the show.

Two weeks after their big win, Greg broke his silence online on March 21 as he let his fans know that his injury would be operated on that same day.

He said: "Long story short, I leapt through the legs of Brendyn and Colin and managed to tear all of my abs as well as herniate. So I effectively gave myself a C-section".

Hours later, he'd shared a post-op update, writing: "Operation done. Recovery starts here."

The 37-year-old also showed his followers the exact moment he sustained his "horribly painful" injury through a video as he explained: "It needs to be operated on today and then I'll be properly on the mend."
