• Genesis is recalling 31,440 GV70s, GV80s, G80s, and G90s from the 2022-2023 model years.
  • High heat could cause the impeller in the low-pressure fuel pump in these vehicles to swell, which may lead affected vehicles to stall.
  • Genesis will reach out to owners on June 18 and will replace their fuel pump assembly with a fully functional part.

Genesis is issuing a second recall related to the impellers within its fuel pumps, this time in the G80, G90, GV70, and GV80. The low-pressure fuel pumps in 31,440 vehicles from the 2022-2023 model years may be prone to failing in areas where the weather gets hot.

The Korean luxury carmaker first attempted to resolve this problem by recalling 19,272 GV70s, GV80s and G80s in September 2023. At the time, it noted that the impellers in certain fuel pumps could swell, causing fuel pressure to drop, and the engines in affected vehicles to stall.

The company’s investigation traced the fault back to the material used to make the impellers, which was out of spec. As a result, Genesis recalled the vehicles it believed had been equipped with faulty fuel pumps.

However, as the automaker tracked the issue, it discovered that vehicles that had not been included in the original recall were also experiencing fuel pump failures. That meant that new vehicles had to be recalled, including certain model year 2022-2023 G90s.

As a result of this fault, GV70s, GV80s, G80s, and G90s included in this recall are at risk of losing motive power, which could leave them stranded on the road, increasing the risk of an accident occurring.

Despite being aware of 463 incidents related to this issue, Genesis has no knowledge of any crashes, injuries, fatalities, or fires resulting from the fault in the U.S. Now, it intends to commence contacting owners of affected vehicles on June 18 to prevent fuel pump failures.

Owners will be asked to return their vehicle to a nearby Genesis retailer, where the low-pressure fuel pump assembly will be inspected and replaced. The new part will contain impellers manufactured to the correct material specifications.
