Two men have been hospitalised following a horror crash that saw a vehicle collide with a house in Barrhead.

One of them, a 66-year-old man, is in a critical condition in hospital, while the other, a 60-year-old man, has subsequently been released.

A third person, the 77-year-old female driver of the Vauxhall Mokka was uninjured.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, which occurred around 5.45pm on Wednesday on Fern Drive in the East Renfrewshire town.

The two injured men were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Police were called to the scene and the street was closed at its junction with Whin Avenue to allow a collision investigation to take place.

Officers are asking anybody with information regarding the crash to get in touch with them.

Sergeant Sean Dempsey said: “I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision to contact us with any information.

“I would also ask anyone with doorbell cameras or dash cams to check their footage as there may be images which could assist our investigation.”
