Meghan Markle once responded to Prince Harry's interruption with a sharp three word retort during a public event with Prince William and Kate Middleton, according to a royal author.

Back in 2018 when the two couples were still on speaking terms, they were affectionately known as the Fab Four and made a joint appearance at the Royal Foundation Forum.

This marked Meghan's first official engagement alongside her future in-laws, and her speech reportedly caused a stir, upsetting executives at the foundation and creating tension among the four royals, the Mirror reports.

Royal author Tom Bower claims in his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors, that Harry's interruption during Meghan's speech about women empowerment had a more significant impact than initially thought.

At the time, Meghan told her audience: "With so many campaigns like MeToo and TimesUp, there's no better time to continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people supporting them.

"You'll often hear people say, 'Well you're helping people find their voice' and I fundamentally disagree with that, because women don't need to find a voice.

"They have a voice, they need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen.

Harry then interrupted his future wife to crack a joke which the duchess quickly hit back at.

Mr Bower wrote: "While Meghan spoke, Harry spotted William's rictus grin... 'Wedding first', Harry whispered loudly".

While the expert claims that all four of them laughed at Harry's joke, he also implies that the comment was his subtle way of reminding his then fiancée to not get ahead of herself.

Meghan replied to Harry's unexpected interruption by saying: "'We can multi-task'" according to the author.

Mr Bower also explained that even as patrons of charities, the Royal Family members have little power over their day-to-day functioning and activities.

He wrote: "That power was exercised by the Foundation's executives, an unimpressive group criticised for ineptly moving the royals around like chess pieces.

"While William, Kate and Harry had become accustomed to their motley behaviour, Meghan's arrival as a natural recruit for the Foundation's philanthropic work disturbed the rhythm of the executives' habits. Her feminism also upset their ingrained conservatism."

His comments come after Hollywood actress Melissa McCarthy applauded Meghan for her personality and said she doesn't understand why she receives so much hate.

The Bridesmaids star also confessed that the way Meghan is treated makes her feel sad for "every woman."

She explained: "It bums me out for every woman and every person, that for no reason people just like to attack.

"A smart interesting woman that has her own life, for some reason, is incredibly threatening to some people."

Speaking with Page Six, Melissa, aged 53, also said: "I always think, how inspiring. I've never once been threatened by someone who is amazing.

I just think how inspiring. It's really on the people throwing the hate."

She continued to describe the former Suits actress as "wonderful" and "awesome."
