Waitrose has recalled packs of its own-brand butter over fears it may contain pieces of blue cloth.

The supermarket has pulled 500g blocks of its Essential Waitrose & Partners Salted Dairy Butter with the best before date of June 19, 2024. No other dates are affected by the recall. The butter retails art £1.75. Shoppers are being urged to take the product back to their nearest Waitrose store for a full refund.

Waitrose said in a recall notice published online: “We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.” A separate notice on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) reads: “Waitrose is recalling Salted Dairy Butter because it may contain pieces of blue cloth. The possible presence of blue cloth makes the product unsafe to eat.”

Another recall you should be aware comes from Morrisons, which has pulled its The Best Taleggio with a use by date of April 14 as there is a “potential risk” that some packs may contain listeria. Symptoms of listeria poisoning include a high temperature, aches and pains, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

Unilever has recalled packs of Magnum Almond Ice Cream Sticks because of the possible presence of plastic and metal. The particular packs that have been pulled contain the batch codes L3338, L3339, L3340, L3341 and L3342, and have a best before date of end of December 2025. Finally, Asda has recalled packs of Asda Succulent Cooked & Peeled King Prawns because of an incorrect use-by date.
