Christy Turlington slammed the “rude” schoolboys who used her old nude photos from her modelling heyday to cruelly taunt her son.

The supermodel, 55, was one of the most famous faces in the world in the 1990s, and was crowned one of the Big Six alongside Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer and Linda Evangelista. She stunned the fashion industry when she quit modelling when she was 26 to focus on her university education, and went on to welcome daughter Grace, 21, and son Finn, 17, with actor Ed Burns.

However, she was left embarrassed when it emerged her son, who turns 18 next month, was being heckled by members of an opposing team at school ahead of a basketball game as they handed out nude photos of Christy from a photoshoot in the 1990s. “I was surprised it hadn’t happened sooner. But, at the same time, I was like, ‘This is so rude!’” she told Harper's Bazaar in the May 2024 Beauty Issue.

She confessed she wanted to “disappear” when her son’s school became involved, and it evolved into a “bigger thing”. Christy explained: “All I wanted to do was disappear.” However, the experience has taught her a valuable lesson, and she’s confidently moved on from the awkward incident. “I don’t feel embarrassed about anything. Regretting things is a waste of time,” she stated. The model also revealed her daughter Grace had encouraged her to turn off the comments on her Instagram posts, and it’s made her much happier. “I can't say that I'm Teflon. I'm sure if I did read something that was pointed or mean, it would hurt me in the same way. But I also try not to give that much attention to any of it,” she shared.

Christy has previously spoken about her children being unaware of her huge modelling career, and last year, she said they still didn’t know just how much of a massive superstar their mother was. “When they were both little, I didn't really model very much,” she told Glamour. “I still don't. It’s pretty rare when I do. But my daughter, she knew I went to school, which she thought was hilarious because she would do homework and I would do homework. The fact that I could talk about ‘I have a test tomorrow’ … she really liked that.”

Christy has stunned fans with her age-defying appearance, and in 2016, she spoke about how her approach to ageing hasn’t changed at all over the years. “I wasn't worried about ageing at 16, and I'm not worried about it at 47. It's a fact of life, and it's good that people close to me see that I'm relaxed and okay about ageing, not neurotic or worried about it," she told Town & Country magazine. “To my kids, I'll be the mom who barely shaves her legs, who doesn't colour her hair. Being who you are, being your best self, has nothing to do with what you look like.”
