Fresh off three gruelling weeks on the PGA Tour, Tommy Fleetwood has shown his class by caddying for his stepson in a Challenge Tour event.

Fleetwood made his way on the tour more than a decade ago, going on to win seven DP World Tour events, star at the Ryder Cup and rack up more than £17million in career earnings on the course.

But a busy schedule – which included a career-best third-place finish at The Masters earlier this month and a tough week at the RBC Heritage last time out – has not got in the way of Fleetwood going the extra mile to support his loved ones.

Fleetwood is on the bag for stepson Oscar Craig for the UAE Challenge at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi this week, as the 17-year-old amateur tries to follow in the world number 11's footsteps.

Fleetwood earned his way onto the PGA Tour by winning the Challenge Tour's Kazakhstan Open in 2011 and is sharing his wisdom with Craig – the number 429 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking – on course this week.

Craig, one of two children from Fleetwood's wife Clare's previous marriage, made an impressive start in the UAE, where the family is based. The youngster carded a bogey-free round of three-under-par, sitting four shots off the lead.

It continued Craig's good form after he claimed victory at the Ras Al Khaimah Men's Open in February, where he recovered from a difficult opening round to take a one-shot victory.

“Proud family moment. Oscar wins his first men’s event,” Fleetwood posted on Instagram in celebration of the victory.

Fleetwood has had questions over his own caddie position this season, with longtime ally Ian Finnis out of action as he recovers from a chest infection. Augusta National's former caddie master Gray Moore carried Fleetwood's bag at The Masters.

“He’s not been well all year,” Fleetwood said when asked about Finnis' absence. ”At the moment he’s at home trying to recover and get the right treatment. Hopefully, he’ll be back out sooner rather than later.

“It’s definitely different being without him. Like we’ve been together every tournament for the last eight years pretty much. So, we just wish him all the best. The sooner he can get better, the better for all of us.”

Fleetwood made a bright start to the season, edging out Rory McIlroy to win the Dubai Invitational in January. But it has been slow going on the PGA Tour since, with no top-five finishes until his success at The Masters, finishing seven shots adrift of winner Scottie Scheffler. But Fleetwood's commendable showing at Augusta National will inspire confidence he can claim his first PGA Tour victory before the end of the year.
