Social media reacts to first round pick, Texas DT Byron Murphy

Things are different in Austin. The Texas Longhorns have the culture, wins, talent acquisition and development to show for it.

The NFL draft was a continuation of the strides made by Texas since Steve Sarkisian took over as head coach on the Forty Acres. Last offseason saw former Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson drafted No. 8 overall to the Atlanta Falcons. The first round success continued on Thursday night.

Byron Murphy became the first Texas player selected in the 2024 NFL draft. The Seattle Seahawks drafted Murphy with the No. 16 pick in the draft.

Murphy is yet another example of the dying narrative that Texas lacks development. The former three-star rose to All-American caliber before becoming one of the top picks in the NFL draft.

Here’s how social media responded to the Longhorns’ first round pick.
