A fire in Swansea completely destroyed an industrial unit on Friday (April 26). Thick black smoke could be seen for miles around rising from a site thought to be near the Asda at Llansamlet.
Pictures on social media showed thick heavy smoke billowing above the site on Friday lunchtime. Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said that five crews were sent to Swansea Enterprise Park, Llansamlet.
A spokeswoman said: "The fire was well-alight on arrival and spread to the external main building and contained. Building completely destroyed by fire."
The alarm was raised at 11.20am and crews left the scene at 2.19pm.
Jamie Punchard, who works at nearby Scuffed Up, explained what he saw. He said: “I was out here and all of a sudden it went whoosh with a big plume of smoke. It happened around 11.20am. We have got a statement from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue:
At 11.20am on Friday 26th April, crews from Morriston, Swansea West, Gorseinon, Pontardawe, and Neath were called to an incident at Swansea Enterprise Park, Llansamlet.
Crews responded to a fire within an industrial unit measuring approximately 15m x 8m. Crews utilised 1 main jet, 2 hose reel jets, 6 breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. Thermal Imaging Camera and a hydrant were also in use. The fire was well-alight on arrival and spread to the external main building and contained. Building completely destroyed by fire.
Police were in attendance for traffic management, along with one Ambulance. Crews left the scene at 14:19pm.
Workers allowed to return
Workers are being allowed to walk back up the road to their places of work now but public and vehicles still aren’t being allowed access up Clarion Close as a precaution.
'All of sudden it went whoosh'

Industrial estate is blocked off
The fire is reported to have been in an industrial unit within Clarion Close. Police have blocked off access to the industrial estate to allow emergency services to work at the scene.

We are awaiting confirmation from the fire service about the cause of the blaze.
There are pictures across social media of the smoke from the blaze and it appears to be centred in the Llansamlet area of the city.
