  • Driver Isaiah Miller, 20, died at the scene alongside three others
  • A pregnant teen passenger died in hospital, and her baby couldn't be saved

A pregnant teenager was among four people killed in a police chase when their getaway vehicle crashed into a highway barrier.

The horror crash unfolded Wednesday in southeast Pennsylvania, after police identified their red Ford Taurus as allegedly being connected to a string of recent retail thefts.

The driver Isaiah Miller, 20, sped away and led cops on a daring seven-mile chase, weaving in and out of traffic at high speed on a busy highway.

Footage captured the moment Miller's erratic driving saw him lose control of the vehicle and cross the highway before colluding with a barrier, causing the vehicle to burst into flames.

Miller was pronounced dead at the scene alongside passengers Ikeam Rogers, 20, and Kalyn Billips, 21. Pregnant 17-year-old Tyjana Motley died in hospital, and efforts to save her unborn child through an emergency C-section were unsuccessful.

Three others inside the vehicle were rushed to hospital, where they were listed as suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

The police chase was triggered after troopers patrolling a mall in Concord Township identified the vehicle as connected to recent thefts.

State police said one person in the Ford taurus was 'believed to be involved in a previous retail theft at the shopping center', but did not specify which occupant it was.

When a trooper approached the vehicle, reportedly three or four people outside the car jumped in before it sped away, with a total of seven people believed to be in the car.

After initially evading cops, the vehicle was stopped a short time later after officers said it was found to have a tinted front windshield, expired inspection stickers and a Delaware temporary paper registration covered by a tinted license plate cover, reports the New York Times

Miller then attempted to evade custody again, racing away at a high rate of speed and leading police on a five-minute-long chase that ended in tragedy.

Footage initially showed police following the red Taurus through a busy highway, with separate surveillance cameras then capturing the moment the car crashed head on into a bridge encampment barrier.

Video also showed at least two other cars on the highway narrowly missing the crash, as witnesses said it was fortunate there were not more victims.

'It was hectic over there, there was smoke coming from everywhere,' witness Anthony Billops told Fox29

'I'm just glad there weren't more fatalities than what happened, because that's one of the busiest roads down here.'

John Kovatch, the owner of a landscaping company across from where the crash occurred, said the highway is known as a 'killer' to locals due to the large number of cars and crashes on it.

'It's always a concern,' he added.

The crash is still under investigation, state police say.
