Regarding Ruth Marcus’s April 22 op-ed, “Can Jews come together this Passover?”:

Driving the other day to do my final Passover shopping, I heard on NPR the cookbook author Joan Nathan say, “Passover tells us who we are.” No holiday is more central to American Jewish identity. The holiday celebrates the ancient Hebrews’ escape from Egypt, and is called in the liturgy, “the time of our freedom.”
