The family of a postmaster who took his own life after being caught up in the Horizon scandal said that they felt “silenced” by a “gun to the head” settlement after the inquiry heard from the executive who devised the deal.
Martin Griffiths, from Cheshire, died by suicide in 2013, while the Post Office hounded him for £100,000 that the company wrongly suspected he had stolen from his branch.
Gina, his grieving widow, was offered a settlement of £140,000 with a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) enforced through staged payments.
She said she was given a single day to accept the offer, and was “silenced” for seven years until she gave a media interview about her ordeal in 2022.
