A man who urinated in the sea in Vung Tau has been fined VND200,000 (US$8) by local authorities.

The 34-year-old visitor from Tay Ninh Province was summoned by the authorities on Sunday after some people took a photo of him standing on an embankment and urinating into the public sea and fined for "violating environmental regulations."

He told them he had rented a car to travel to Vung Tau from Tay Ninh, and at around 1 p.m. told the driver to stop to urinate.

A companion was also seen in the photo standing on the embankment, but was apparently just standing there for the breeze.

Vung Tau, a popular tourist destination, has built 30 public toilets along its beaches.

Along with Hue and Quy Nhon, it received the 2024 ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award at the ASEAN Tourism Forum in January.
