Why Andreas Christensen was substituted at half-time in Barcelona vs Valencia

An explanation for the early withdrawal of Barcelona star Andreas Christensen during the club’s meeting with Valencia on Monday has today come to the fore online.

Barcelona, of course, are fresh off a return to winning ways.

After welcoming Valencia to Catalunya’s capital for a La Liga clash last night, the Blaugrana ultimately emerged on the right side of a 4-2 result, Robert Lewandowski proving himself the star of the show by way of a hat-trick.

The aforementioned Christensen, meanwhile, was afforded a starting berth for the clash, at the base of boss Xavi’s midfield.

The Dane, however, was hooked from proceedings with his side a goal down at the interval.

This marked the 2nd game in succession during which Christensen managed just 45 minutes, after doing likewise against Real Madrid.

And as much, it has today been revealed, comes owing to ongoing physical problems.

As per a report from Diario Sport, Christensen ‘has had discomfort in his Achilles tendon since the start of the season’.

The former Chelsea man has been playing through the pain for some time now, in an effort to aid the Barcelona cause.

Xavi, highly appreciative of as much, is in turn dosing Christensen’s minutes, to ensure the 28-year-old’s availability for selection over the final weeks of the term.
