Simon Rolfes has a ‘good feeling’ Jonathan Tah will stay at Bayer Leverkusen

Bundesliga champion Jonathan Tah (28) is facing one of the biggest games of his career when Bayer Leverkusen face AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday night.

The German defender has been a stalwart in Xabi Alonso’s defence this season, playing 41 games across all competitions, which should see him nominated for Julian Nagelsmann’s Euro 2024 squad. But his performances this season has attracted interest from Europe’s top clubs, including Bayern Munich.

But speaking prior to Leverkusen’s trip to Rome, sporting director Simon Rolfes has a ‘good feeling’ that Tah will remain at the club beyond 2025, when his contract expires. “We’re in good communication with Jona about the whole situation. There’s no question that he feels comfortable here, but it’s normal for you to think about it after a certain time in your career, even at that age.

“I have a good feeling that he will stay. Because he also notices what has happened here in the last few years, but what is still possible here – also next season. That’s why I’m completely relaxed about it.”

Bayern Munich have already initiated talks with the entourage of Tah, while it’s reported that Leverkusen are unwilling to strengthen any of their league rivals.

A possible treble for Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen winning a treble this season is entirely possible. 46 games unbeaten across all competitions, Die Werkself have already wrapped up the Bundesliga title and are just three games away from lifting the Europa League, where they will face one of Marseille or Atalanta in the final should they beat Roma.

Not only that, they face a DFB Pokal final against 2. Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern this month.
