For the first time in years, the former Austin-American Statesman building on South Congress Avenue has a temporary tenant.

The building that once housed Austin's daily newspaper will host “Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience” and “Beyond Monet: The Immersive Experience.” According to an announcement, moving versions of paintings by the two famed artists will be projected onto walls and the ground.

The building has been vacant since 2021. The location is right off the Congress Avenue bridge, a popular spot where people watch the bats come out. The newspaper moved into a new facility in Southeast Austin. The future of the former site is now in question after a judge ruled against the city’s plan to help fund its redevelopment.
