Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the iconic motors brand posted a 30-second clip that showcased different shots of a V12 Twin Turbo engine as its roar could be heard in the background.

At the end of the post, there was also a "TwelveCylinders" hashtag - a nod to the new 12 cylinder engine.

But the most interesting part was the post's caption, which read: "Dawn of a new V12 era. All will be Vanquished."

The final part of that caption all but confirmed Aston Martin will bring back the storied Vanquish name for its next generation flagship model.

It will be the first of a run of "exclusive and limited-availability models" to use the overhauled V12.

The new Vanquish has been confirmed to pack 824bhp and 738lb ft of torque - substantial increases of 109bhp and 74lb ft over the standard DBS.

This will make it one of the most powerful production Astons yet.

Aston Martin confirmed that the new V12 engine is the result of a complete redesign to achieve unprecedented performance and efficiency.

It will boast a strengthened cylinder block and conrods, redesigned cylinder heads incorporating reprofiled camshafts, plus new intake and exhaust ports, a statement from the company said.

There will also be repositioned spark plugs and new higher flowrate fuel injectors to deliver optimised combustion for class leading performance and efficiency gains.

The turbochargers, meanwhile, are now more responsive and run at a higher speed, boosting throttle response.

Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer, Roberto Fedeli, said: “The V12 engine has long been a symbol of power and prestige, but it is also a statement of engineering passion and technical prowess.

"With 835PS and 1000Nm of torque this unparalleled engine represents nothing less than the dawn of a dazzling new V12 era for Aston Martin.”

Aston Martin gave an insight into the speed of the upcoming Vanquish, suggesting it will be tangibly quicker than the DBS as the new engine will "achieve unprecedented performance and efficiency".

Although it shares its basic bodywork and platform with the DB12, Aston Martin chief creative officer Marek Reichman confirmed to Autocar the Vanquish will be “completely different”.

The much-anticipated motor is expected to be officially confirmed this summer.

Following Aston Martin's announcement of its upcoming flagship model, fans could hardly contain their excitement.

"Thank you for keeping the heritage alive," said one person on X.
