Jim Ratcliffe will weigh in on Mercedes ' search for Lewis Hamilton 's successor as he mulls over the big decisions to come at Manchester United this summer.

The Silver Arrows have the unenviable task of searching for a driver to replace the seven-time Formula 1 champion. Hamilton has decided to leave for rivals Ferrari and will join the Italians next year at the age of 40.

Team principal and co-owner Toto Wolff has made it clear he will not be rushing to make a decision on who their next driver will be. It is also clear that he wants to convince Max Verstappen to leave Red Bull, but that seems unlikely at the moment.

A planned meeting with Verstappen's entourage this week never happened, but Mercedes are hoping to speak with the Dutchman, his father Jos and his manager Raymond Vermeulen after the conclusion of the Miami Grand Prix.

And Ratcliffe is set to be involved in that conversation. He, along with Wolff and Mercedes-Benz chief executive Ola Kallenius - they each own a third of the team - all plan to be present to make their pitch to Verstappen.

At Mercedes, Wolff is the one who oversees the day-to-day operations of the team. But, even though Ratcliffe's INEOS company only has a 27.7 percent share of United, he is the one who has full sporting control these days, having taken over in that regard from the Glazer family.

And Ratcliffe hasn't been afraid to ring the changes at the top. His pal Dave Brailsford has been helping him with decisions, Omar Berrada is the new chief executive, Jason Wilcox has been brought in as technical director and Dan Ashworth hopes to join from Newcastle United as sporting director.

There are more big calls to be made, though. That includes a decision over the future of manager Erik ten Hag, who has produced underwhelming results during his time in charge. German giants Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on making the Dutchman, who previously managed their B Team, their next head coach after Thomas Tuchel.

Ratcliffe and his colleagues are also expected to make sweeping changes to the playing staff this summer. But it may prove difficult for United to offload several stars who earn massive salaries but who have not been putting in the performances to match.

Jadon Sancho fell out with Ten Hag and has impressed since he joined Borussia Dortmund on loan in January, but United still want around £40m for the winger. The likes of Antony, Casemiro and Mason Greenwood may also be difficult to sell for any decent transfer fee.
