Speculation is ramping up over Erik ten Hag's future as Manchester United boss with the season rapidly approaching its conclusion.

Ten Hag has led United to a miserable campaign, finishing bottom of their Champions League group, missing out on the top four and being dumped out of the Carabao Cup in the fourth round.

They can still win the FA Cup, though will have to beat bitter rivals Manchester City to do so. Ten Hag's position appears increasingly perilous, but the frontrunner to take his job, Thomas Tuchel, has now hinted he may in fact remain with Bayern Munich.

Tuchel's hint comes as doubts began to emerge over the German's candidacy from chiefs at United. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United news.

Neville backs Ten Hag stay

Gary Neville believes Erik ten Hag will remain at Manchester beyond the end of the season. The Dutchman gave an interview to Sky Sports on Friday, which Neville believes shows he will remain in his post.

"I thought he was very assured. "Obviously everyone else around him has gone at senior management level - the CEO, the technical director's been shifted, the CFO's gone, the interim CEO, John Murtough's gone - so there's been a lot of change at the club," he said.

"I felt as though he was assured, he was very calm, but obviously he's been under quite a lot of pressure recently. He talked about how big the FA Cup fnal is in a few weeks, that's a season-defining game.

Manchester United chiefs are growing concerned by Thomas Tuchel's history of clashing with club bosses. Tuchel has emerged as a leading candidate to replace Erik ten Hag, with the German set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

That would make him available for free in the summer, if United were to replace Ten Hag. But it now appears that concerns are growing over Tuchel's departures from his previous jobs.

His time at Mainz came to an end following a dispute with directors over transfer funds, while he was sacked by Borussia Dortmund after a breakdown of trust between himself and the club's board. He also clashed with PSG's sporting director before his exit from the French club.

Ratcliffe suffers blow

Thomas Tuchel has dealt a blow to Sir Jim Ratcliffe's plans for the United manager post. The German is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season having missed out on the Bundesliga title.

But after they failed to convince with Xabi Alonso or Ralf Rangnick to move to the Allianz Arena, Tuchel has hinted he may yet remain in his post. He said: "This is an agreement, so this can't be changed.

"Well, you can change every contract by mutual consent because we had a contract as well and then we agreed on ending it early, so everything is possible. But the answer is the same: the agreement stands and the agreement exists."
