The Gen V team is addressing how Season 2 will move forward following cast member Chance Perdomo‘s untimely death in March.
“As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory,” producers wrote in a statement posted on the show’s Instagram page.
“We won’t be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance,” they continued. “Instead, we have been taking the time and space to recraft our Season 2 storylines as we begin production in May.
“We will honor Chance and his legacy this season,” the statement concluded.
Perdomo passed away as the result of a motorcycle accident in the final days of March. He starred as Andre Anderson, a student with magnetic manipulation capabilities, in The Boys spinoff.
“We can’t quite wrap our heads around this,” the Gen V producers said in a statement released shortly after his passing. “For those of us who knew him and worked with him, Chance was always charming and smiling, an enthusiastic force of nature, an incredibly talented performer, and more than anything else, just a very kind, lovely person. Even writing about him in the past tense doesn’t make sense. We are so sorry for Chance’s family, and we are grieving the loss of our friend and colleague. Hug your loved ones tonight.”
The series debuted in September 2023 and was renewed for Season 2 in October.
I’m sure they’ll figure out an appropriate way to write Andre out of the story. Though in the Boys universe, character exits tend to be rather violent and undignified, so I’m curious how they’ll balance the need to be respectful with the desire to maintain the tone of the show.
That hadn’t even crossed my mind as an option. The closest I thought might happen is an as unspoken of younger sibling coming in like that Andre tried an escape and it resulted in him dying but it set Polarity off to basically sound like he is a member of the Boys so Vought takes the younger sibling as collateral and whoever stored the other three as opposed to sending them to Elmira that puts the sibling with them if they need metal bending help, make it a sister and have her favor green hair dye and you can have the Polaris character.
They should recast. The actor was very problematic. It’s sad that he died, but his memory doesn’t need to be “honored” to where they can’t recast his role in a TV series.
Yikes, you weren’t kidding.
I guess actors don’t really care about being aligned with the values that their shows promote because he was a grand canyon apart from the Boys-verse on his personal views.
I applaud them for this decision. Plus it’s not like they can’t have somebody else come in with the same powers that Andre had. They can simply just say him and Polarity decided to move away and focus on repairing their relationship something along those lines
Only thing will be when they inevitably do flashbacks or whatever to show how the four of them got out of that room/put in the room they will have to sort of finesse that situation since clearly he won’t be on screen
This is the same kind of issue that Ryan Coogler and Kevin Feige had with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. They were so emotionally connected to the actor that they failed the story of the sequel and the MCU’s future with a character that had a glorified cameo in Civil War, starred in one movie and then had two cameos in Infinity War and Endgame. The MCU never even scratched the surface of the T’Challa character who has a rich and wonderful comic book history over the decades. The movie needed a year for the producers and actors to separate themselves from the tragedy of Chadwick Boseman’s death and then after that time, properly revisit the idea of recasting. But instead Disney forged ahead with only a 4 month or so delay for Ryan Coogler to retool the script to kill the character off in a manner that did not make sense within his own universe.
That’s what should be going on with Chance Perdomo. His death only just happened a month or so ago. Producers unfortunately are now on a tight production schedule from Amazon to get season 2 filming that they are now using emotion as a reason for not recasting a character that was in the closing moments of season 1. They’re not doing what’s best for the story or the character by suddenly removing said character, only going by emotion to dictate the story. No actor in my opinion should ever outlive or be more important than the character they are playing, in life or death.
