They said they'd made the “extremely difficult decision” to cancel the Riverside Festival in Glasgow.

They told music fans it would not go ahead due to “lower-than-expected sales and increased infrastructure, staff, transport, and artist costs, all in an over-saturated event landscape”.

But dozens hit out at the poor line-up and lack of backing from sponsors for the music event, classed as "one of the best festivals in Scotland".

One moaned: "Get used to it kids, your favourite clubs are next, the scene is dying."

A second posted: "Line ups have been getting worse as the years wore on. Get the real legends back, Derrick May, Dave Clarke, Sims, Mills, Hood etc."

Another said: "All the folk moaning about the lineup need to wind their neck in. One of the best festivals in Scotland is now no longer going ahead. Terrible news for the scene.

"Sending big love to the team on the other end who will have grafted & stressed for months trying to make it happen."

The event’s cancellation comes after their 2023 event celebrated their 10th anniversary.

The organisers said in a statement: "It is with deep regret and heavy hearts that we’ve taken the extremely difficult decision to cancel this year’s Riverside Festival.

"With lower-than-expected sales and increased infrastructure, staff, transport, and artist costs, all in an over-saturated event landscape, we could not deliver the festival to our usual high standards.

"We understand how upsetting this is for those of you who have bought tickets, and we sincerely thank you all for your continued support.

"Full refunds will be available from Skiddle & Resident Advisor within 5 working days.

"For those of you committed to dancing Clydeside, all is not lost!

"We’re putting together two massive shows at the museum for you, taking place on Aug 31st & Sept 1st."

The event was set to take place across May 25 and May 26 with headliners Green Velvet, LF SYSTEM, Slam, LA LA, and Charlie Sparks.

Other festivals struggling this year include The Great British Beer Festival, which scraped the event, due to problems with gaining a venue.

The only other years it was cancelled were in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid, as well as in 1984.
