Ariana Grande, Mona Patel, and More Were as Snug as Bugs at the 2024 Met Gala

When the Met Gala dress code has the word garden in it, the most obvious trend to come to mind is florals. The second? Bugs!

While last night's Met Gala 2024 carpet was a garden of colorful garden flowers—from Ayo Edebiri’s floral Loewe gown to Usher’s rose embroidered Alexander McQueen suit—there were also a few “buggy” outfits prancing around.

Huma Abedin, who came to the event alongside designer Erdem Moralioğlu and actor Lily James, wore a green dragonfly embroidered draped gown that was the perfect match to James’s floral ensemble. Ariana Grande kept her two looks simple (or, as simple as one can in Loewe and Maison Margiela Artisanal) but adorned the corners of her eyes with butterfly motifs. Grande wasn’t the only one feeling butterflies; Uma Thurman’s lavender Tory Burch gown featured an array of purple butterflies at the shoulder. And lest we forget Mona Patel, who’s making waves on the internet for being an unexpected best-dressed guest. The entrepreneur wore a one-of-a-kind Iris Van Herpen butterfly gown paired with detached sleeves designed by Casey Curran. Following the event, the stunning piece was donated to the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

For others, the bugs were a little less noticeable. For those watching the livestream, the focal point of Cynthia Erivo’s Thom Browne skirt suit may have been the pink flower petals, but a quick zoom revealed tiny beaded ladybugs, butterflies, and roaches.
