Trump’s hush money trial concludes for the week after more witness testimony

The fourth week of Donald Trump’s criminal trial in Manhattan ended Friday afternoon, with jurors sent home after a few hours of relatively low-key witnesses. The week was dominated by sometimes heated testimony from Stormy Daniels, who sparred with the former president’s attorneys. On Friday, jurors heard from others, including Trump’s former White House assistant, phone company employees and a paralegal with the Manhattan district attorney’s office.

The trial will be held for only three days next week. Wednesdays are a regular day off, and there will be no proceedings on Friday so that Trump can attend his son’s high school graduation.
Prosecutors said Friday that they plan to call two witnesses next week and could rest their case by week’s end. The defense may then call its own witnesses.
Trump’s attorneys unsuccessfully sought a mistrial in the case this week, saying that Daniels’s testimony about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump — which at times sounded nonconsensual as she described it — would unfairly bias the jury.
Trump, who denies that he had sex with Daniels, faces 34 counts of falsifying business records related to his reimbursement of Cohen for a hush money payment to Daniels before the 2016 election.
