Jeremy Clarkson said that Enzo Ferrari had described the E-Type as the prettiest car of all in one episode of Top Gear.

The host said the car is incredibly "beguiling, bewitching, and beautiful."

A 1970 silver model is currently up for sale with Car & Classic that has a manual transmission and right hand drive.

They say the car has many of the original documents and a well-kept history of all the work that has been done to it.

The description on the website reads: "The engine feels superb with excellent oil pressure, the four speed all syncromesh gearbox is lovely and smooth and the E-Type handles superbly.

"JAG 952 is a striking looking car, the paintwork is beautifully finished, the body exceptional from its major refurbishment and the car has a real presence.

"This is a superbly presented car and its been truly cherished over the past 5 years and looks attractively priced for what is a very well sorted, beautifully presented Series II FHC."

It went through a £50,000 restoration that was completed in 2001 when it was stripped to a bare shell and rebuilt with plenty of new parts.

"The E-Type was stripped to the bare shell and the body rebuilt with many brand new panels to include doors, outer sills, rear lower quarter panels and wheel arch panels."

Clarkson pours his heart out describing the motor in an episode of his famous TV show.

He said: "What makes that extraordinary is it was shaped at night, in a rudimentary early days wind tunnel that used so much electricity it could only be operated when the rest of the country was asleep."

In a series 17 episode of Top Gear the motoring journalist drives a 1961 version of the car and said it continues to still be a great drive today.

He said: "It's the same age this car and me, give or take, and I think it has aged better, still looks good."

Clarkson loves the motor and has said it is possibly the best thing to have ever come out of Britain.

I bought Jaguar E-Type for only £1

By Jacob Jaffa

A CAR lover who bought a Jaguar E-Type for just £1 is set to sell it on for over £1 million.

The gorgeous classic, which was one of the earliest production models of the beloved car, has undergone a major restoration and is now set to go under the hammer for an eye-watering sum.

The seller, from North Wales, snapped up the Series I Fixed Head Coupe for just a quid in 2000.

Known by its registration 1VHP, it is the first example of its model and is the only survivor of the four that were made.

The ultra-low price came as part of an agreement that he would restore both 1VHP and 9600HP, a pre-production prototype which is the oldest E-Type in the world.

The current owner said: "Goodness knows how many famous people have sat in 1VHP as it was initially used as a demonstrator model in London for six months.

"It’s beautiful, drives brilliantly and it’s the first.

"It can’t get any better than that. There is only one number one."
