Daulton Jefferies had a 17.36 ERA in two games this season for the Giants.

Amid the buzz of introducing top overall prospect Paul Skenes at PNC Park on Friday, the Pittsburgh Pirates orchestrated a minor trade, acquiring right-hander Daulton Jefferies from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for minor-league outfielder Rodolfo Nolasco.

Jefferies, 28, was designated for assignment by the Giants on Monday.

Upon trading for him, the Pirates optioned Jefferies to Triple-A Indianapolis.

He made two appearances for San Francisco this year and struggled, posting a 17.36 ERA after allowing 14 runs (nine earned) in 4 2/3 innings.

Jefferies was selected 37th overall in the 2016 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics.

Over 16 career MLB appearances (11 starts), he has a 2-10 record and 6.64 ERA over 61 innings pitched, with 41 strikeouts and 16 walks.

He made his MLB debut with Oakland in 2020. In spring 2022, Jefferies underwent Tommy John surgery, sidelining him for all of 2023.

His most extended MLB action came in 2022 pre-injury, when he made eight starts for the A’s, going 1-7 with a 5.72 ERA.

Nolasco, 22, had appeared in 21 games this season for High-A Greensboro, batting .173 with a pair of homers and 12 RBIs.

The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native spent 2022 and 2023 at Low-A Bradenton.

He joined the Pirates as an international free agent in 2018.
