UK holidaymakers have been cautioned about a Spanish resort that has seen a significant 'deterioration', with the once-celebrity-frequented Puerto Banus now being dubbed Spain's worst seaside location in a recent Which?

survey. The upscale marina, known for its luxury boutiques and yachts, was criticised as "tacky" and a "seedy dump".

While Alicante secured a spot in the top ten of preferred destinations, Benidorm managed to clinch the 12th position. However, it was the glitzy Puerto Banus, just southwest of Marbella, that found itself languishing at the bottom of the rankings.

The survey assessed resorts based on eleven different factors, including beach and seafront quality, safety, food and drink options, accommodation standards, and value for money. Rory Boland, Editor of Which?

Travel, commented: "This survey shows that there are plenty of fantastic Spanish beach resorts that will easily beat the best-marketed destinations like Marbella and Torremolinos. You don't even need to look far, with beautiful Nerja and its quaint white washed streets also to be found on the Costa del Sol.", reports the Mirror.

Boland also recommended San Sebastian for those seeking a city break combined with sun and sea, praising its renowned restaurants, authentic cuisine, charming old town, and superb beaches. In stark contrast, Puerto Banus only managed to score a meagre 55 per cent.

One holidaymaker has warned that the area has "deteriorated" over their years of visiting. The British tourist, responding to a survey, commented that "it's still a place for the rich and to be seen but has become tacky". Another respondent labelled it as a "seedy dump".

According to a survey by Which?, the top ten Spanish seaside towns include San Sebastian in the top spot, followed by Nerja and Cartagena in second and third places respectively. Javea and Sitges complete the top five.

Altea came in sixth, with Estepona and Moraira taking the seventh and eighth spots. Alicante and Cadiz rounded off the top ten, coming in at ninth and tenth respectively.
