Matt O'Riley ensured Glasgow is green and white with Celtic's opening goal but turned the air blue when assessing his "pretty s***" second half penalty in their momentus Old Firm victory.
The midfielder had the chance to put the champions elect 3-1 up early in the second half and make the rest of the derby clash against ten-man Rangers a procession. He was forced to wait though as ref Willie Collum was called over to the monitor for another look at Mohamed Diomande's trip on the Dane.
He stuck to his guns though, and the onfield decision stood. However, the composure O'Riley showed to Panenka his pen down the middle in last month's draw at Ibrox was missing. Jack Butland did well to get down and stop a weak effort from 12 yards. Luckily for O'Riley, it didn't come back to haunt him as the Hoops saw out a 2-1 to go six points clear with two Premiership games to go.
O'Riley admitted he'd practiced what to do in training, but in the end just overthought it and paid the price. "Pretty s*** penalty to be honest," he told Sky Sports, forcing Luke Shanley into apology mode. "I thought about it too much. I practiced it yesterday and probably just got caught in two minds when I was over it. More to learn from - I won't do that again!
"I had a plan and was waiting for him (Butland) to move. He stayed put a long time. yeah, I probably just needed to have slightly bigger balls than I did."
